Natural History Museum

This museum is located in the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur. The museum has great scientific collections which include geology, paleontology, paleoanthropology, and paleo-biology.

It displays the remains of birds, aquatic mammals, and reptiles of the region.  Interesting enough, this place also used to be a household for representatives of the United Nations in Cabo!  But the really important thing there is to see the paleontological findings of the area throughout history.  This is a huge museum that offers seven halls with different subjects such as nature and local history. Also, there, you’ll get to see the tools that had been used by local sailors in the past and a lot of the story of Baja California.

One of the most recommended rooms is the biodiversity room.  It has great examples of sea life, information about the migration of dolphins and whales as well as the preservation of the sea turtle.  If you don’t feel satisfied with knowledge by then, they also have the astronomy area, the geology room, paleontology room, and a temporary exhibition hall.  This is a very unique and complete place to have fun and learn a lot!

Museo de Cabo San Lucas

This museum was opened in 2006 and is located in the Downtown area of Cabo San Lucas.  It mostly accounts for biological and historical exhibitions. The room of the archeology area has the remains of a pericu woman, an ethnic group from the south region of Baja.  The biodiversity hall shows a complete seabed in scale with the endemic flora and fauna. Learn there more about the dolphin and whale migration as well as the preservation of the sea turtle.  Another of the rooms that this museum has is astronomy, geology, and paleontology.

At present, it has scientific displays that comprise paleo-botany, skeletons of the sea mammals, and anthropology.  And, furthermore, a significant part of the museum covers the history of Cabo. Regional Anthropology and History Museum

If you have the intention to experience the local culture and learning about Los Cabos history this is the perfect place for you!  In this museum, you will be able to learn about the history of pre-Columbian times to the early 20th century. The museum has four areas that show the different stages which comprise the prehistoric remains and objects from the modern era and colonial times.  Also, find there an ethnobotanical garden and rooms offering learning workshops for all ages.

The exhibitions there include stones with inscriptions, books of the missions, local crafts, details of pearl diving and copper and gold mining, as well as weapons and objects from the time when Baja Californians defended their land against foreign invasions.  It also has an important collection of fossils that allows us to understand the natural diversity that has existed in the Baja California peninsula since 60 million years ago.

The Whale Museum

The Whale Museum is the host of a whale skeleton which is 12-meters long!  Expect to be amazed by the view of it. The building stands out from the rest since it has modern architecture.  Furthermore, this building also includes the city theatre. And, it also has a big play area in case you are traveling to Cabo with kids.  At the Whale Museum, you will come across various illustrations and photos related to Whales. As a matter of fact, you will learn the history related to the migration of seasonal whales to the Southern Baja California’s shores.

Regional Museum of Telecommunications

Cabo San Lucas also has a Regional Telecommunication Museum that has over 50 antique television, communication, and radio instruments. You will find portraits and biographies of popular scientists too.  The main reason for this museum to exist is that of knowledge in technological development. There you’ll see the process of telecommunications growth throughout the years. In this special and unique place find gathered and preserved valuable pieces that marked a cornerstone for better communications in the region.  See the action first-hand as these were also the facilities that were used for educational purposes such as study and research for professionals in the area.

Museo De Las Californias

The museum features three exhibition spaces where you can view old artifacts, important documents, and regional photos related to the history of the Baja Peninsula. It is situated on one side of the town square and is considered to be a new addition to the public museum scene of the city.

Museo del Pasado Marino

This is basically a fishing museum.  But don’t let yourself go with the name, as this is an incredible place fulfilled in history.  It has exhibits related to the fishing industry in the Cabo region. There, you’ll be able to face several specimens of large tuna fish, sharks, and marlin.  All of them preserved by the museum for people to see and enjoy in amazement. Not only really impressive specimens but also you can get to see some endemic and less known species from the region.  Truly a hidden gem in Cabo San Lucas when it comes to museums.
